What side of the plate do you fall on?
The new Discovery doesn’t feature a spare wheel mounted on a side-hinged tailgate, so why the nod to the Discovery’s heritage in retaining the off-centre number plate?
The design may be a much-discussed subject but it does draw the eye and judging by the enormous PR budget thrown at the Paris Motor Show launch, Land Rover and their design team are serious about the importance of linking the new Discovery to it’s previous incarnation, the Discovery III.
Online reaction as well as social media feedback has been split, unlike its tailgate, but we at Hobsons are pretty sure that the inclusion of this heritage design cue may provide clues as to what the new Defender may look like when it is finally unveiled.
The offset number plate may be a design oddity, and could even be described by some as visually awkward, but we feel that up close the new Discovery is a head turner. And there is no doubt it will be a hit, you have to see it, like us, to believe it.
